The ladies hat is a clothing item added in the Royalty DLC. It provides a +20% increase to Social Impact, and meets the headwear requirements of female nobles between Acolyte and Praetor rank.
It is the female equivalent of the top hat.
Acquisition
Ladies hats can be crafted at a Hand tailor bench or Electric tailor bench once the Noble apparel research project has been completed. Each requires 50 Stuff (Leathery/Fabric) and 6,000 ticks (1.67 mins) of work.
It can also be found on female Imperial Nobles, for sale at traders and as a quest reward.
Summary
A ladies hat offers a +20% increase to Social Impact. Note: Social impact predominantly affects the Opinion bonuses and maluses pawn interactions can create, the success chance of Speeches and some rituals. It does NOT affect trade prices, as that is instead dependent on Trade Price Improvement. Nor does it affect prisoner recruitment, beyond slightly hastening how quickly the prisoners like the warden, as that is instead dependent on Negotiation Ability.
To consider themselves properly dressed and avoid a -4 "Want <TITLE>-specific apparel" moodlet, nobles between the ranks of Acolyte and Praetor must wear a ladies hat or one of the following alternative pieces of headwear:
- Beret
- Eltex helmet
- Eltex skullcap
- Prestige cataphract helmet
- Prestige marine helmet
- Prestige recon helmet
- Top hat
Note that female nobles will receive a -5 "Wearing male apparel" mood debuff from wearing a top hat, while male nobles will receive the same penalty for wearing a ladies hat.
When worn by a slave, a ladies hat increases the rate that suppression is lost by 5% per day. This stacks additively with all other forms of suppression loss rate offsets.
Analysis
Ladies hats are a luxurious headgear that offers a significant boost to social impact of +20%, even larger than the Bowler hat's 15%, but provide no armor and equivalent or worse insulation and require significantly more material to craft. Thus they are inferior to, and should be exchanged for, literally any other headgear unless required by a noble or for the social impact buff. The ladies hat can be worn in non-combat situations, and switched for a helmet at the battlefield
As male pawns will receive a mood debuff while wearing this item instead the male equivalent, the top hat, should be substituted.
